School! Progress!

These school pictures are coming for me at just the right time. I was starting to settle into the idea that Brayden may not progress much more developmentally. He has not been able to do much. He can get his hands to his mouth but nothing else seems intentional. He eyes do not seem to focus on much at all...I have no idea what he can see, if anything at all or make any sense of it.

Brayden's teacher sent us more pictures from school. She says they are starting to see a pattern for activating the switches...He brings his hand up to his mouth and then...

Down to touch the switch!
The teacher, aids and therapists help position him best to help make this happen, they have put a pillow under his arm to assist him.

And here he is checking out the dinosaur.

And then playing dress up. They put bright colors on him to see if he will look at himself/the bright colors in the mirror. And he did! He is looking pretty fly!

so nice to meet you in the blogging world :) Your little Brayden is adorable, and my Brayden was actually diagnosed with agenesis of the corpus callossum before birth...it was changed after an MRI at birth to hydranencephaly.

I look forward to reading more about your little guy, as well as the rest of your family:)

I LOVE progress!!! Keep up the great work Brayden!!

I once read something that just came back to my mind after reading your post. It talked about how most people would look at just a slight amount of progress as being not much to get excited about, but when you have a special needs child, you look at it as a great gift.

It was made into an analogy like this: Many people would choose a larger present than a smaller one. But, sometimes the smaller wrapped gift has something far more great than the larger wrapped gift. For example, a diamond ring. The box doesn't look like it holds much, but inside there is a wonderful gift that is worth a lot!

This is kind of how we need to look at progress with our special needs children. They may progress VERY slowly, but when they do progress it is like getting a diamond ring! It's an enormous gift and we appreciate this gift so much more than all the other gifts that we may get.

Our children are a gift from the Lord! They may not be able to do a whole lot, but the gifts they bring to us are of more value than we may think!

Brayden is here to "teach, not to learn." And, if you ask me, he is a fantastic teacher and gift to this world! Love and Hugs!!!

Way to go Brayden! I love these pictures! Sounds like he is at a great school. It is so wonderful that they are working so hard to understand him and to do what is best for him. He does look pretty cute in that hat. : )
