Prayers for Smiles

Several weeks ago, I talked with a mom who told me that one of her prayers early on for her child was to see a smile each day, to have a connection with her daughter. Things were tough but seeing a smile always helped.

That conversation has been in my thoughts. Smiling is not something that Brayden does on a regular basis. In fact he can go weeks and weeks without one, without showing any sign of happiness. I have NO idea how to make him smile (and he does not laugh, at least that we know of). If I was honest, I must say that lately that has been one of the hardest things...no smiles. He typically has a face of indifference or annoyance. But happy rarely happens. I have been praying to see him, his smiles, more of his personality.

I can see why that conversation would stick with you. As a parent, we desire to connect with our kids. Without words (or smiles), it can be hard to know if we really have. Praying with you that Brayden will flash some smiles. It really is the simple things in life that make all the difference!

I'll be praying for smiles, for you and Brayden both!

I remember the year that Gavin never smiled....it was very sad for me. Finally, he began smiling again (I'm pretty sure it was due to seizures and seizure meds) and I pray this happens for you as well!

Love, Hugs and Prayers!!!

harvey hardly smiled, it was one of the hardest parts, it was so difficult to feel that connection that came so easily between mother and child to others. i ended up being able to tell when he was happy though because his arms were relaxed and not pinned to his chest. when he did smile it was like i wanted to put it on the evening news and i took about a million photos! his eyes twinkled a bit too when he was happy xxx anne

Here I thought I was the only with this deep rooted desire...I never see Hudson smile, once in a blue-moon, and when he does I wonder if it is really in response to anything or just some chaos going on in the brain. NEVER heard a giggle which is very hard for me.

I know it is all seizure/med related. Before 4 months old, before the seizures, Hudson started smiling in response to seeing our face, etc. It all faded with seizures.

I know how you feel... 100%!!!!!!

Sorry we both know this pain, but think of the joy we would feel to see this emerge in them...prayers are with you!

As much as Junior smiles now that was not always the case. He was past 2 before he started smiling at all. Smiles started occasionally but soon he was rarely without a smile.
Lots of hugs and prayers that Brayden will start sharing some of those beautiful smiles.

The first time Layne smiled "for real" was after starting the keto diet. About a month after that he became ticklish for the first time...so here's hoping the diet helps in that area!
